AIDS Walk
Golden Gate Park, San Francisco: July 16, 2006

Twenty-five thousand people walk the 20th annual SF AIDS walk, raising almost $4 million.
I was there with my highly-controversial message, "Vaginas Prefer Not to Have AIDS." More than one woman told me that her vagina felt the same way.
It was great. A beautiful day, lots of good people out for a good cause, and not a lot of other costumed walkers to compete with me for the center of attention.

It was also a lot more wholesome that most of the events I find to wear my getup to. Not only was there no public drinking, I don't even think almost anyone there was drunk! (I say 'almost' because at least one group of trendy gayboys were bucking the trend.)

I didn't even mind the wholesomeness, it's just that I swear the 10k was longer this year than last year... And since I walked to and from the event, it worked out to more like 10 miles. In addition, although my costume is beautiful, it is not really ergonomically designed for long-distance wear. And my sign! It turns out that sign construction is more complex than I was giving it credit for. The whole concept of wind did not even occur to me until my arm was being halfway blown off.
Nonetheless, I'm excited about future events, and *very* excited about future sign-making opportunities... I love pithy messages.
How Weird Street Faire
Howard Street, San Francisco: May 7, 2006
This event unfortunately no longer exists, but it was a good time when it did. SF's SoMa district was filled with techno-hippies and fairyfolk for the How Weird Street Faire, an aptly-named festival whose proceeds benefit the World Peace Through Technology Organization. And I bought myself a tent and set up shop.

Just try to resist my allure.

I was surprised by how many people seemed to think I was just a representative of some big corporation.

It was nice to display a whole bunch of my art someplace other than my bathroom. (Which is incredible, by the way.)

Naughty Santa's Black Market

SomArts Gallery, San Francisco

Once again I had a booth at this lovely and quirky holiday fair. The Run-DMC puppet show was right next to me - sweet!

Always fun to dress the part.
